How many photos do I need?

As a guideline, 6–7 photos per 30 seconds of film (each photo gets an average of 4–5 seconds). More or fewer is possible – we'll show you how it looks during ordering.

Question 2

Which file formats and sizes are supported for photos?

Accepted Answer

JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC/HEIF, TIFF, GIF and AVIF are supported – camera raw formats (e.g. RAW) and PDF scans aren't, though. You don't need to worry about file size: photos that are too large are automatically resized when you upload them.

Can I use old or slightly damaged photos?

Yes. Automatic photo enhancement is switched on for every photo by default: a visible print border, a slight tilt, or distracting signs of age are removed automatically, and upside-down or sideways photos are straightened as well. If you'd rather keep a photo's original character, you can turn the enhancement off for individual photos.

Why was a photo rejected?

Accepted Answer

Every photo goes through automatic review. It's sometimes very cautious – for example with photos of children without a shirt. In that case, pick a different photo for that spot.

Can I choose whether the video is landscape or portrait?

Accepted Answer

Yes, during ordering you choose whether your video is created in landscape (16:9, e.g. for a TV) or portrait (9:16, e.g. for a smartphone).

Can I use a portrait photo if I want a landscape film?

Accepted Answer

Yes, that's possible – and the other way round too. If a photo's orientation doesn't match your chosen video format, it's extended sideways or top and bottom by AI instead of being cropped or stretched, and every extension is checked automatically. You'll get the best results, though, if your photos already match the format you want – landscape photos for a landscape film and portrait photos for a portrait film. AI can make mistakes: added image areas don't always fit perfectly.

Can I choose the music myself?

Yes. You can let the AI decide, pick a music style from several options, or upload your own music as a reference – with an optional text field for further wishes. You need the necessary rights to the uploaded music; it's additionally checked automatically before it's used. After delivery, you can also switch between already generated music versions for free; one completely new version is free per order, and a further new version after that costs €2.00.

Which format and file size are allowed for my own reference music?

If you upload your own music as a reference, MP3, WAV, M4A, and OGG are supported, up to 25 MB.

Whose consent do I need?

Accepted Answer

When uploading, you confirm that you own the rights to the photos and have consent from the people shown – or are entitled to as a family member.

Question 10

Can I use the video commercially?

Accepted Answer

Yes – as long as you hold the rights to the photos used and everyone shown has given their consent, commercial use is no problem, for example publishing it on YouTube.

Can I have just a single photo animated?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Choose “Single clip” at the start: one photo becomes a moving clip of 4 to 12 seconds – with the same action and image enhancement options as the film, with music or with the original sound from the video AI. If you like, you can first turn your photo into one of 39 creative image styles – from oil painting and watercolour to pencil drawing and anime. Each second costs €1.50, delivered as a download. Once it is ready, you can adjust titles and their order free of charge at any time; two music versions are included.

Question 12

Do titles and animations count towards the booked length?

Accepted Answer

No. The length you book (e.g. 60 seconds) only covers your animated photos. Our short Memoryfactory animation, your film title and any title cards you add come free on top — so your finished film is a little longer than the booked number of seconds. The same goes for a single clip: you only pay for the seconds of the clip, titles are included.

How can I pay?

By credit card via Stripe or via PayPal – payment happens right at the end of the order process.

How long does it take until my video is ready?

Accepted Answer

Creation runs automatically in the background – you don’t need to wait or keep the page open, we’ll email you as soon as your video is ready.

Several AI steps run for every photo (image analysis, image preparation, the actual video creation) before everything is edited into one film. As a rough guide, depending on the film length you choose:

• 30 seconds: up to one hour
• 60 seconds: up to 1.5 hours
• 90 seconds: up to 2 hours
• 120 seconds: up to 2.5 hours
• 150 seconds: up to 3 hours
• 180 seconds: up to 3.5 hours

It is usually faster, but when the AI services are very busy it can take longer. If you request a change after watching (e.g. a different action for a clip), that also takes some time, because exactly that part has to be created again.

How can I check the status of my order?

Under "Account" you sign in passwordless via a link sent to your email address. There you'll see all your orders along with their current status.

Can the AI make mistakes?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Your film is created entirely with AI. Even though every extended photo is checked automatically, a clip may occasionally not turn out quite as intended – for example a movement that looks unnatural, a visible edge in an added image area or, in rare cases, a person or setting that differs from the photo. For such cases you can report individual photos after completion and have them recalculated; you'll see how many adjustments are possible on the confirmation page.

Can I have individual sections revised?

Yes. On the confirmation page you can request changes for 30 days after your film is first ready: report individual clips as mistakes or have them created differently, replace photos with new ones or remove them, change the order by dragging or let the AI reshuffle it, trim or mute clips, add your own titles, design the title card, and remove the Memoryfactory animation and the title card or move them to any point in the film. Reordering, titles, trimming and muting are free. Recreating and replacing clips uses an allowance that depends on your number of photos and is shown to you there. The exact legal framework is set out in the terms and conditions.

Question 18

What format is my film in, and where can I play it?

Accepted Answer

You get your film as an MP4 file (video: H.264, audio: AAC) in Full HD resolution – 1920 × 1080 pixels in landscape or 1080 × 1920 pixels in portrait. The file is roughly 20 MB per 30 seconds, so a 3-minute film is about 110 MB. MP4 in this form is the most widely supported video format: it plays on practically every smartphone, tablet, computer and smart TV without any extra software. Many digital picture frames play it too – but since devices vary a lot, we can't guarantee the film will run on every picture frame. If in doubt, check your frame's specifications for supported video formats.

Question 19

How much does shipping cost?

Accepted Answer

Only the USB stick and picture frame are shipped (“Download only” is not shipped). Shipping with Hermes costs €4.60 within Austria and €11.10 to Germany for the USB stick, and €6.60 within Austria and €16.10 to Germany for the picture frame. Once shipped, delivery usually takes 2–4 business days. You'll enter the exact delivery address at checkout. We only ship once you have confirmed on the confirmation page that you're happy with your film ("I'm happy. Complete order.") – at the latest when the 30-day correction period ends. That way you can make changes first, at your own pace.

Question 20

What happens to my photos afterwards?

Uploaded photos and intermediate results are deleted after a set period. Details are in the privacy policy.
